Cookie LaRue Welch

Cookie LaRue Welch

May 12, 2008 – November 10, 2023

Cookie was adopted from Angels of Assisi in July 2008, along with her “brother” Brutus. She was a very shy and timid kitten but once we got her home, that changed.

She was a very vocal cat and usually had something to say about everything. She was the best cat alarm clock ever. She always woke us up at the same time because it was time for her breakfast. She always made sure we kept the food bowl filled. She was always with her mama. Whatever room she was in, wherever she was sitting, she had to be by her side. She loved her diddy and would meow at him to move out of his chair so she could sit in a warm seat. He would always move so she had him well trained.

Her favorite hobby was bird watching out her window. She also spent hours on her screened in porch no matter how cold or hot it was just to keep an eye on the birds. She loved all things cat nip. Her favorite toys were all cat nip toys and she would get high daily. She slept on the back of her mama’s chair every evening when watching tv and then would sleep in the bed on her mama’s feet every night. We named her Cookie because everyone names their black and white pets Oreo. She had many nicknames including Sweet-a-pea, Miss Kitty, KeeKee, Baby and Keycat. Her mama always talked to her in a high- pitched voice, which annoyed people, but Cookie loved it.

She passed away just 6 weeks after Brutus. She had not been ill, but they suspect she had cancer. When Brutus passed away, she looked for him everywhere and never really stopped looking. They were always together for more than 15 years.

Cookie was the sweetest black and white cat to ever walk the earth. Our home is so much quieter without her. We will never forget her sweet meow and miss it so much, even the very early wake up calls. We, her mama and diddy, Chris and Sue Ellen Welch, miss her so much. She is with Brutus again now and that gives us some comfort.
