Lou Dog Davis

Lou Dog wasn’t a good dog — she was the best dog. Everyone thinks their dog is the best but for Sarah Davis, she shined above all others. Only 10 weeks old when Sarah met her, Lou immediately stole her heart. For more than 15 years, Lou was Sarah’s constant companion — through the good, like trips to Asheville, Nags Head, and Florida, as well as through the bad, like a divorce and an unexpected move. But the best times with Lou were the normal days — walks together outside, waiting patiently for Sarah to pat her head before Lou would eat her food, and watching the goings on out the window. And the car rides. Lou loved nothing more than sticking her snout out the window and riding shotgun with Sarah, and Sarah took her everywhere she could. Lou loved Sarah with everything she had, and Sarah loved her back just as fiercely.

Lou also adored Sarah’s partner, Phil, and Sarah’s parents, Charlie and Beth. She knew them all by name and loved being with them. She loved it when Sarah listened to The Infamous Stringdusters and when Sarah shared the crunchy tips off her crab rangoons with her. Lou loved snow and the beach, but not the scary ocean. And she hated automatic doors.

Lou is preceded in death by her best friend, Jager. More than two years after Jager’s passing, Lou would still perk up with joy when she heard Jager’s name. Lou and Jager were sisters in every way but blood. Now they are together again.

Lou was a cherished family member who we would have loved for another 15 years if we had the chance. We’re all grateful she chose Sarah as her person and we miss her greatly.
