Rudy Devine Ferguson

August 20, 2008 – January 29, 2026

Rudy crossed the rainbow bridge and is now romping with his brothers, Milo & Ace. He was a BIG personality in a small package. Many considered him to be the “Ambassador of Salem.” He could be seen sniffing around Roanoke College and Downtown Salem, but his main turf was working as the “greeter” at The Knittin’ Coop on S. College Ave. He held “Employee of the Month” for 6 1/2 years and was well known for giving “low fives” due to his short stature. For those who knew he did this trick, he would happily perform with haste…and of course, for the treats! His love for treats was well known, and he was a regular at Chick-fil-A (Salem), getting his favorite treat of all, “Chicken Nuggies.”

He was also known as a man of many words; he would involve himself in the conversations his parents were having with others. Rudy loved his many trips to the beach and was a constant companion under the umbrella during vacations. In his younger days, he would strut his stuff along the water’s edge, soaking up the adoration of others. He loved the water, much to his parents’ surprise; often on a hot summer day, he would test the waters of the Roanoke River. His favorite holiday was Halloween, when he and his mom would dress up for the kids. His most memorable costume was when he dressed as his favorite mailman, Bev Williamson.

We would like to thank the doctors at DeRolf Animal Hospital for their care and compassion, especially Dr. Lee Metrey, who gave Rudy the best care over the nearly 17 1/2 years of his life.

He was predeceased by his brother from another mother, Milo, who left us in 2018 and his feline brother, Ace, in 2012.

Rudy leaves behind many who loved him: Mom & Dad, Robin & Jack Ferguson and many extended family members, as well as friends who visited him at “work.”

Rest easy and run free, sweet Rudy. We miss you terribly already and we’ll always love you. We will NEVER forget you or the love and happiness you brought into our lives.
